FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 7, 2007; Conshohocken, PA, USA: Mike Hebe, Director of the Verge MAC Cyclocross Series officially announced today that the organization’s UCI Elite Men’s and Women’s divisions will be sponsored by SRAM in 2007. The Verge MAC Elite Men, Powered by SRAM and the Verge MAC Elite Women, Powered by SRAM will both be competing for overall season championship awards paying five places deep in addition to the hefty prize money at each individual race. “Our Elite Men’s and Women’s Season Champions will both receive a SRAM Force component group,” said Hebe. “Both runners-up will receive a SRAM Rival component group, and the riders rounding out the top-five in both the Men’s and Women’s season points will receive SRAM parts packages.”
Another incentive for this year’s Verge MAC Powered by SRAM Elite Men and Women is the new Aqua Fina Barrier Preme at every race. This new award should make the always-hectic starts even more spectacular as it will be given to the first Man and first Woman to cross the preme line place just beyond the planks on the first lap. Complicating matters is the habit of MAC promoters to put the planks in “inconvenient” locations, such as after a hairpin turn. At the Wissahickon Cyclocross on October 21, for example, the Aqua Fina Barrier Preme Line will be located on a run-up directly in front of a raucous beer tent.
Verge MAC is also an advocate for grass roots racing, as evidenced by the 22% growth in average per-race entries last year. Verge MAC’s USA Cycling-sanctioned divisions have their own championship jerseys and sponsorship support. This year, Challenge Tires and SupaFAN.com join returning sponsors Hammer Nutrition, Sports Balm and BikeReg.com in supporting the classes that truly are the “roots” of the sport. Hammer Nutrition will be providing swag at every race and Sports Balm will reprise its popular first lap "hot lap" preme for the Elite Masters & Men’s Category 2/3/4 race, while SupaFAN.com is paying the pre-entry fee for every entrant in the Junior divisions.
With the support of its riders, and sponsors like SRAM, Verge MAC is aiming to become an un’rival’ed ‘force’ in American Cyclocross.
